Exams and term papers are naturally in full swing in August. But summer, too, is at its peak. The specialist libraries are hives of industry, temperatures are rising, and course materials are not the only thing making students sweat.
The English Garden may still be de rigueur as a haven of cool shade, but many might prefer a little rest and relaxation closer to the campus itself. Shady spots as an antidote to frazzled brains are by no means in short supply at LMU!

At the heart of Munich’s art district, the adjacent museums share a pleasant spot of greenery with the Faculty of Mathematics – the perfect place to bring a blanket, sit yourself down and enjoy a cold drink to ward off the heat.

Nordhof, one of the main building’s three large courtyards, is a cool place (in every sense of the word) to recover from the summer heat. At the same location, the StuCafé (StuBistro Adalbertstrasse) also boasts plenty of covered outdoor seating and canteen food at low prices.

Fancy working at generously dimensioned outdoor tables, or splashing your feet in the water to cool off? Then the Biomedical Center at the Martinsried campus has just what you are looking for. Learning or relaxing in the shade is no problem right outside the Audimax auditorium.

The fountains on Geschwister-Scholl-Platz and Professor-Huber-Platz are as refreshing in the summer months as they are iconic. At this popular meeting place right outside the main building, an occasional splash of water combines with the dreamy blue of the fountains to conjure up at least a touch of the poolside vibe.

Less well known – and less heavily frequented – is the fountain in the Salinenhof courtyard. Concrete blocks provide ample space to sit down or recline in the shade of plentiful trees. With the Historicum library only a stone’s throw away, what better place could there be for a short, invigorating break?
